Furmano's Announces Crock Pot Recipe Contest Winner
For immediate release - Northumberland, PA - The following recipe "Spicy Tomato and Pear Sauce" was created by Jacqueline McComas of Paoli, Pennsylvania, and was the winning recipe of Furmano's Crock Pot Recipe Contest. We had many great recipes submitted but this recipe was a creative and unusual way to use Furmano's Petite Diced Tomatoes with Chipotle. The flavor combination is amazing.
Ingredients
Preparation
• Place tomatoes in a small crock pot & set on high.
• In small bow, combine sugar, cornstarch, and spices; blend & combine with tomato mixture.
• Add pears to tomato mixture.
• Cook covered on high for 2 hours.
• Keep warm until ready to serve.
• This sauce can be used over many dessert foods but is especially delicious with ice cream. For each serving, place scoop of ice cream in small dessert bowl or fancy martini glass, spoon mixture of sauce on top, and sprinkle with pepper. Also scrumptious over pound cake and ice cream.
Sauce Options:
Decrease the sugar to 2 1/2 Tbsp if you wish, and this sauce is unique over fish, chicken or string beans. The warm, bite-size pieces of chipotle tomato and pear in a spicy sauce is a happy addition to any meal. Other recipe variation: "Pecan Crusted Tilapia served with Furmano's Spicy Tomato & Pear Sauce".
