Furmano's announces "Get Your Sauce On Chili Style" Recipe Contest Winner

Northumberland, PA - The following recipe for "Aloha Hawaiian Chili" was created by Regina Haley of Shamokin, Pennsylvania, and was the winning recipe of Furmano's "Get Your Sauce on Chili Style" Recipe Contest. Using Furmano's Diced Tomatoes as a key ingredient in the sauce, this flavorful chili is unlike any other!






Recipe Title: Aloha Hawaiian Chili

* 2 C diced/cubed smoked ham
* 1 medium onion - chopped
* 1/4 C diced green pepper
* 1 teaspoon garlic-minced fine/crushed
* 1 -4 oz can crushed pineapple - UNDRAINED
* 1 -16oz can dark red kidney beans- UNDRAINED
* 1 28oz can Furmanos diced tomatoes -UNDRAINED
* 1 C water, tomato or apple juice or combo to equal 1 cup.
* 1 jalapeno pepper, seeded and chopped fine to taste or use hot pepper sauce (optional)

Preparation:
1. Sauté over medium heat - ham, onions, and green pepper in 2T butter/margarine until lightly browned (about 5-7 minutes)
2. Add garlic and sauté 1 minute more.
3. Add pineapple, tomatoes, beans, and choice of liquid.
4. Stir to mix well and simmer about 45 minutes over low heat, stirring occasionally.
5. Good over hot rice, noodles or all on it's own in a big bowl.
