Northumberland, PA – October 23, 2006 – Americans are obsessed with pizza. A resounding 94% of the US population eats the cheesy tomato pie, equating to an astounding 350 slices eaten every second! And we all like it a different way – some with mushrooms, some thin and crispy, others extra sauce and no cheese. If it were up to Furmano Foods, deep-dish pizza would be the variety everyone would soon try. Furmano’s newest product, Deep Dish Style Pizza Sauce, is a chunkier version of the classic and the perfect sauce for pizza or for dipping!
First invented in post-depression Chicago, deep-dish pizza was created at a time when Americans were used to eating one-dish meals called casserole. After loading ingredients onto a pizza crust, the use of a deep pan made the meal seem more like a casserole. Moreover using the deeper pan meant the crust wouldn’t need the stretching and pulling, or even tossing, that the traditional Italian thin pizza required. Plus, putting the mozzarella cheese on the bottom and the sauce on the top meant all the toppings would bake and ooze together. Delicious!
Deep Dish style pizza might be hard to find at your local pizza shop but luckily with Furmano’s new Deep Dish Pizza Sauce, it’s easy, and much more fun, to make at home!
