SEASONAL JOB DESCRIPTION/RESPONSIBILITIES
December 10 - May 10
Personnel Management
* Farm team personnel- machinery R&M, snow plowing, field work
* TOPS Mechanic-winter R&M for transplanters, harvesters, and irrigation equipment
* Make plans with Personnel Dept. for spring planting personnel needs
* Champion the efforts for Continuous Improvement and 5S
Machinery Management
* Oversee personnel in winter R&M
* Project machinery usage and needs for Farms, TOPS, Waste Treatment
* Evaluate yearly machinery options in ownership, rentals, custom hire
* Meet with manufacturer reps. and TOPS mechanic to plan for TOPS machinery preparation
Crop Management (working with Ken and Don)
* Plan crop rotations and locations
* Evaluate fertility needs and plan applications
* Evaluate land rental options
* Investigate and plan for cover crops
* Evaluate options of in-the-field nutrient analysis tools
* Evaluate optional nutrient products
* Project planting schedule of fields, varieties and herbicide applications
Business Management
* Wrap up final details of Farms/TOPS yearly financials
* Project for capital needs, looking ahead minimum of 3 years
* Financial projections for Farms/TOPS yearly
* Understand and operate TOPS & Farms information systems including Pillar budgeting program, field mapping program, and crop record keeping/pesticide record keeping programs
* Submit reports to VP of Ag Operations
* Involved in yearly crop insurance decisions
* Create PO’s and approve invoices for payment
* Monitor payroll record keeping, i.e. time cards, paychecks
May 10 - June 10
Personnel Management
* Train planting personnel before the start of transplant season
* Daily schedule TOPS personnel needs with HR
* Coordinate planting crews schedule with Field Reps. and grower
* Communicate throughout the day with all field personnel
* Arrange for TOPS Mechanic to do on-site R&M whenever necessary
* Monitor weather constantly and be in contact with Ken at planting sites early in mornings
* Work with Deb in coordinating plant deliveries from Mobley to Furman’s and from Furman’s to planting sites
* Be at White House every morning to coordinate sending crews to the fields
* Have evaluation meeting with Farms/TOPS supervisory personnel
Machinery Management
* Oversee personnel for maintenance, i.e. set-up and R&M
Business Management
* Create PO’s and approve invoices for payment
* Approve payroll record keeping, i.e. time cards, checks, etc.
* Monitor all financial record keeping
* Monitor field record keeping including pesticide applications
June 10 - August 10
Personnel Management
* Make provisions with personnel for Farms/TOPS harvest
* Direct personnel in clean-up and storage of planting equipment
* Involved with Furman Farms’ custom applicator for chemical application needs and issuing of work orders for chemical applications
* Oversee Farms personnel in preparation of harvest equipment
* Coordinate personnel for any necessary irrigation applications
Machinery Management
* Finalize machinery preparations for harvest season
Crop Management (working with Ken and Don)
* Involved with scouting activities of Field Reps for Furman Farms
* Make field visits as possible
* Oversee progress of Farms crops; monitor pesticide application needs
* Monitor needs for irrigation applications
* Schedule initial applications of ethrel on Farms TOPS fields, in conjunction with Ken
Business Management
* Create PO’s and approve invoices for payment
* Approve payroll record keeping, i.e. time cards, checks, etc.
* Make reports to VP of Ag Operations
* Involved with making final reports to insurance company for crop insurance
* Oversee field record keeping into information systems
* Monitor financial progress of crops as compared to projections
August 10 - October 10
Personnel Management
* Schedule TOPS harvest personnel with HR daily
* Coordinate harvest crews schedule with Field Reps and growers
* Coordinate emergency and routine R&M with TOPS mechanic
* Monitor weather so as to coordinate harvesting activities
* Coordinate harvest schedule with Deb and scalehouse
* Be at White House every morning to coordinate sending crews to the fields for tomato harvest
* At end of tomato season have evaluation meeting with harvest operators
Business Management
* Create PO’s and approve invoices for payment
* Approve payroll record keeping, i.e. timecards, checks, etc.
* Make reports to VP of Ag Operations
* Oversee field record keeping into information systems
* Monitor financial progress of crops as compared to projections
October 10 - December
Personnel Management
* Provide necessary personnel for clean-up and storage of harvest equipment
* Coordinate dry bean harvest with Farm Team Leader and Farm personnel
Machinery Management
* Oversee tomato harvester clean-up and storage
Crop Management (working with Ken and Don)
* Make necessary notes concerning past crop season and harvest
* Oversee planting of cover crops
Business Management
* Create PO’s and approve invoices for payment
* Approve payroll record keeping, i.e. time cards, check, etc.
* Monitor all financial record keeping
* Compile end of year summaries
* Summarize all field record keeping in information system
* Plan for the following year
Season-wide Cross Training
* Knowledgeable back up for snap bean program
* Knowledgeable back up for greenhouse tomato transplant program
* CDL with tanker endorsement
